HATTIE'S 3rd BIRTHDAY/Trip to Moses Lake Weekend--Sept. 29-Oct. 3

Doug and I traveled to Moses Lake, Washington, to see Ryan, Heather, Hattie and Jack over Conference Weekend, which happened to be Hattie's 3rd Birthday on Sunday, October 2 (along with Brielle, Michele's 3-year-old).  We had such a wonderful time spending time with just their family one-on-one.  Hattie was certainly the star of the show and was so loving to Grandpa Doug and me!

10-month-old Jack just loves his blanket!

One of the first things after we arrived was travel to Ephrata, a nearby town, with a Super WalMart to buy Hattie's birthday present.  She said she wanted a Barbie.  After looking at all kinds of Barbies...

...I just happened to pick up a Rapunzel dress that someone had set randomly on a shelf.  When she saw the dress, her eyes light up and we knew we had a winner.

As soon as we returned home, she tried the dress on and wore it almost constantly the rest of our trip.

On Friday we traveled to Leavensworth, Washington.  On the way there we saw a big antique mall by the side of the freeway at Wenatchee.  As part of the mall, there was a fun retro restaurant called Studebaker's where we ate lunch.

The entire town is modeled after a Bavarian Village.  We felt like we were in Germany.

Their Oktoberfest was beginning that evening.  They say that the festival draws in about 30,000 people over the weekend.

The town is very touristy, and, of course, Doug found the first ice cream store.

This was the funnest hat store--notice the Rubik's cube hat...

...and Heather with the Bert hat.

The day and flowers couldn't have been more beautiful!

There was even a Maypole!

And horse-drawn carriage rides.

On our way home, we stopped at a beautiful fruit stand and pumpkin patch.

On Saturday between conference sessions, we went to the Moses Lake farmer's market.  Again, another beautiful Indian Summer day!

Then, to the most important day--Hattie's 3rd Birthday!  She really was a princess with breakfast served in her bed!

The Williams--such a happy, contented family.

It wasn't hard to forget Jack, either.  He is truly the best baby and just loved graham crackers.

Hattie's garden birthday cake.  Heather was so creative with Hattie's cake.  This is literally a candy-decorated map of their real garden, complete with the curving rock path down the middle.

Hattie's parent's presents--a little necklace and pink Razor scooter.

We all tried it, even Grandma--hah!!!

The time went by so quickly!  We're so glad we were able to take the time and make the trip.  Thanks, Heather and Ryan for being so hospitable, for the wonderful meals and Hattie for being so loving, fun and excited about everything.  We love you all so much!!!

This was enchanting to read. Little Hattie really is a princess. Those blue eyes are absolutely gorgeous with her blond hair. She is such a mix of both her parents. And that Bavarian town....such a great place to be in October. Tell Heather that is the most creative cake ever. And I loved that you were trying the scooter with Hattie. Looked like you had a memorable time with your kids!!

What a fun post to read and look at! It made it feel like fall to me while we are still having such warm weather! That Bavarian town is really something. I would love to see that! And the Williams family is truly a sweet family. I love how special everyone made Hattie feel. There is just nothing like a fun children's birthday. She was just beaming!
