DOUG'S 60TH BIRTHDAY
CABO SAN LUCAS
September 21-28, 2009
-----------------
We just returned from celebrating Doug's 60th birthday in Cabo with his siblings and their spouses. What a great place to celebrate a special birthday with special people!!! This was the first trip Doug has taken with his siblings and we had such a fun time we're planning on many more trips.
This was the first view we had from our veranda!! It was like we were dropped into a picture postcard of Cabo with Land's End right across the bay!
This is our condo, Pueblo Bonito Blanco. We had banked our week last year and so had two units side by side!

The group--(l. to r.)Scott & Syd Garner, Blair & Deb Garner, Leslee & Mike Freeman and Doug & Joyce
Leslee by the kitchen towel folded to look like a bird
Flamingos on the property
Notice the turtles lined up on the rock to the left of Doug's arm
Frog decoration in resort pond
Syd & Scott testing the ocean in front of the resort--the water was so warm.
Blair & Debbie thinking they were far enough from the waves until...
they got a little wetter than planned!
Mike & Leslee--this was the first time they had been to Mexico. It was fun to be with them to experience everything for the first time.
Joyce at the dinner table of the resort's beachside restaurant
Mike & Leslee at the same restaurant. There was at least one cruise ship docked out in the bay each day.
Even though we were in Mexico, Debbie ordered her favorite--a BLT sandwich!
Syd feeding the little birds around our table!
We were royally treated, just like on a cruise ship. These were little wrought iron stands to hold purses or hats while we ate.
Doug and Joyce on Chileno Beach where we snorkeled, swam in the ocean and just layed out on the beach!
Looking up under the Chileno Beach cabana that protected us from the sun. This picture doesn't do the clouds in the sky justice.
We ate the greatest food, especially seafood!
It was fun to eat out in the open air!
This was a Mexican Restaurant on the property--Las Palomas
This is our view as we sat eating our lunch at the Cabo Marina
The entertainers at lunch!
All eight of us went billfish fishing on Friday. This is Doug on our 40-foot boat ride to the deep sea.
Mike pulling in the first catch!
The proud fisherman with his yellowtail tuna catch!
There were dolphins wherever there were fish.
This isn't the best picture, but this shows how much the dolphins loved swimming at the ship's bow.
After the first fish was caught, a storm whipped up the waves and that was the end of our fishing trip! Blair, being the adventurous person he is, totally enjoyed the thrill of the waves and rain!
Scott is sitting here because he needed fresh air to help his seasickness!
Pueblo Bonito's other two properties on the Pacific side--Pacifica on the far left and Sunset Beach on the far right.
Looking from the Pacific side to a cruise ship in the bay.
Looking up at the pelicans flying directly above our fishing boat hoping for a fish being thrown by our fishing crew.
Pelicans hanging around our fishing boat at the wharf.
Our fishing boat--the Rebel
We're so glad that Mike caught at least one fish for all of us.
All of us waiting for our dinner near the beach. The resort cooked our tuna three different ways.
The fresh tuna was delicious!
One day we drove to Tito Santos and ate at a Mexican Restaurant there. Again, Blair tried a new dish, fish soup, savoring every bite!
The soup even had a crab leg sticking out of the bowl!
A great way to start the day, especially since it was Doug's 60th Birthday--we took the opportunity to attend a Spanish-speaking Sacrament Meeting in Cabo. The meeting was well attended with four confirmations of newly baptised members that week. I guess that happens every week. None of us spoke much Spanish, but we certainly felt the spirit and enjoyed worshipping with those sweet Mexican members!!!
After church, we went on a glass bottom boat tour of the bay. This is our resort (the white one with blue domes) viewed from the boat.
The birthday boy!
The famous arch at Land's End, the symbol of Cabo San Lucas. This is the place where the Sea of Cortez meets the Pacific Ocean.
Cabo is where the desert meets the ocean and where land ends at the tip of Baja California. El Arco is Cabo's famous landmark arch. The natural structure has been carved from rock by waves.

After our tour, the boat driver dropped us off at Lover's Beach while we swam and snorkeled!
Later in the evening we went out to dinner at the funnest Mexican Restaurant for Doug's birthday dinner!

Doug's personal "Happy Birthday" serenade
Another birthday serenade
Scott & Syd had this cariacture artist draw our pictures!
We went back to the condos and celebrated again!
Leslee presented Doug with an enlarged picture of himself taken while he lived in Jackson Hole and worked as a guide on the Snake River before his mission.
The four siblings!
Monday morning before we departed we looked out from our veranda to see four cruise liners out in the bay! Cabo is certainly a popular destination. We were sad to leave, but will always have wonderful memories of being together as family members in such a beautiful location!! We will never forget the trip!
