EVERETT (RETT) MATTHEW EKINS
Born 8-26-09 at 5:32 a.m.
8 lbs. 13 oz.--21 inches
Grandpa Doug and I traveled to St. George to see our latest little grandson for the first time on Sunday, August 30, after attending our nephew's mission farewell (Corbin Critchfield going to the Honolulu Hawaii Mission). We were so thrilled and relieved to have the miracle birth take place and to have little Rett arrive without any complications! Doug returned home on Tuesday morning and I remained in St. George until Friday. What a great few days! Andrea and Rett were doing so well that we went someplace almost every day.
Grandma Joyce with Abby and her new little brother, Rett.
Rett was a little jaundice at the beginning and looks especially so in this rust-colored outfit.
Rhett in his Grandpa Doug's arms.
Abby comparing size of feet with her baby brother.
Abby just is thrilled with her future playmate.
Rett looked so much like a little boy in this outfit.
Abby and I made a necklace out of her beads.
This is Abby in the dressing room waiting for her mom to try on clothes.
Our Wendy's lunch--Abby is such a careful little eater!
The proud father--Matt and Rett
Abby loves to line up things and so especially enjoyed playing Rummikub with us!
Matt suggested Andrea and I get away for a break and go to the musical production of Footloose at Tuachan, an outdoor amphitheater located in a beautiful narrow red rock canyon outside of St. George. It was amazing sitting in that environment and watching the very professionally-done version of Footloose. This amphitheater has been selected by Disney to perform Tarzan next summer.
Doesn't Andrea look great after giving birth a week ago?!

What a handsome little man! And his big sister looks like she is going to be such a help to their mommy. We are so happy that he arrived safely and so healthy! That is fantastic that you got to spend some time with Matt and Andrea and their beautiful little family.
Everett is just as darling as his big sister and Andrea looks like she is doing great. I'll bet they loved having your help, Joyce, and I'm grateful you could be there for them as well as cover Tom and Hilary's needs. One always wonders how to be in two places at once.
