Saturday, April 19 Trip to Idaho
Doug and I drove to Pocatello, picked up Heather and Ryan and drove to Idaho Falls to take Doug's father out to lunch. After lunch, we drove around Doug's old neighborhood in Ammon while Doug reminisced about his childhood days (we even talked with the old barber who was out in his yard) and took Val back to the assisted living center. That evening Doug and I went to The Red Lion Inn for our brother-in-law's “Citizen of the Year” Award from his alumni--Pocatello High School. We had a nice dinner, program and then after his introduction by two judges, Larry spoke. It was fun to be with Dad, Jerry & Shelly, Blair & Denise and Larry’s brother Bob and his wife Sheryl. Afterwards, we went over to Larry and Beverly’s motel room and celebrated Dad’s 85th birthday (April 16). We gave him a scrapbook of our Caribbean Cruise that we took together in January and a finally had a pencil portrait framed that was drawn by an “Idaho Statesman” artist when he was in the Idaho State Senate and received his “Citizen of the Year." Heather and Ryan came to the party, along with Lisa, Emily and Annie Rigby, Brad and Brian Boyle and Brian’s two boys; we ate cake and ice cream and sang “Happy Birthday” to Dad. Doug and I went back to Heather and Ryan’s apartment and spent the night.
